New Hoy bikes are coming this autumn

Over the years we’ve seen brands making some of the best kids’ bikes come and go, which is a harsh reality of the cycling industry. Among other popular brands who seemed to have stopped production, like Islabikes and Forme, was Hoy. A lot of parents are still very keen to get their hands on a Hoy bike for their child, and have been coming up short, but that won't be the case for much longer.

What happened to Hoy bikes?

Hoy bikes was founded back in 2013 by Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, and was exclusive to Evans Cycles. The range included kids’ city bikes, road bikes and mountain bikes, and at Cycle Sprog we were particularly impressed with the Hoy Bonaly range. You can take a look at our Hoy Bonaly 16 review to find out why.

At the time, they were among the lightest kids’ bikes on the market, which is quite a feat, especially after the range received an overhaul in 2018. Despite their popularity, and the solid simplicity of their build, however, the Hoy range was phased out quietly.

While there was never an official announcement of their discontinuation, there haven’t been any new models produced for several years. That's all set to change this year, with the announcement of an exclusive new partnership between Sir Chris Hoy and Tandem Group.

Tandem Group announces exclusive partnership for new bike range with Sir Chris Hoy

Tandem Group announces exclusive partnership agreement with Sir Chris Hoy, 11-time world champion & 6-time Olympic champion for the launch of a new range of lightweight junior bikes.

Birmingham-based Tandem Group is a leading business in the UK cycling industry. Renowned for expertise in designing, developing and distributing quality cycles, they are proud to announce the addition of Hoy bikes to their esteemed collection of brands.

The new Hoy bikes children’s range will feature four core models, each available in multiple colour options. Every aspect of the design and development process has been meticulously overseen by Sir Chris, who is passionate about ensuring the bikes remain high-quality, lightweight and visually appealing to the rider. The lineup includes models ranging from a 12” balance bike to a 26” rugged hybrid junior bike, catering for children’s cycling needs.

Peter Kimberley, Group CEO Tandem Group Plc, said: “I have a long-standing relationship and respect for Chris for many years and I’m so excited to work with him on this special project. This new Hoy bikes range provides children with a high-quality lightweight bike inspired by a true cycling legend who has a passion for children cycling. We are proud of the fantastic breadth of bikes within our portfolio, and I am so looking forward to sharing these bikes with our customers in the autumn”.

Junior bikes will feature widened handlebars and 1.95-inch tyres, all fully equipped with disc brakes, providing the rider with ultimate control and enhanced safety.  Frame designs have taken inspiration from his former racing days, featuring ‘track bands’ and a unique message located on the chain stay that says, ‘Designed In Great Britain Inspired By Gold’.

Sir Chris commented “Cycling has always been a major part of my life, far beyond my racing career. I first created a range of children’s bikes in 2018, and it has always been my passion to build on this and be able to offer a dedicated range of premium, lightweight children’s bikes at affordable prices. I am delighted to be able to deliver this with Tandem Group; Peter and his team share my passion for children’s cycling and possess the expertise to develop an outstanding junior bike range.”

The highly anticipated new range is set to launch nationwide in September where customers can look forward to comprehensive warranty support.
