Carrera Cosmos 14

The Carrera Cosmos 14 is a popular first pedal bike from Halfords and a good choice if you’re looking for a quality, entry-level bike that’s fun to ride.

While it sits towards the budget end of the price spectrum, it avoids being too heavy or poorly made like many of the cheaper options available (and most other 14 inch bikes at Halfords).

This bike is designed to be a proper introduction to cycling, not a toy, which we think is a really important distinction when it comes to getting a child to enjoy being outdoors and active.

The bike’s lightweight aluminium frame is a key feature that both  children and parents will appreciate. This helps bring the total weight to around 6kg, which is significantly lighter than many bikes in this price range.

A lighter bike is much easier for a small child to handle, which builds their confidence and helps them learn to ride more quickly. It makes it easier for them to start off, go uphill, and manoeuvre in general. A lightweight bike also makes your life easier when you have to carry it, lift it onto a bike rack, or get it in and out of the car.

For a first pedal bike, the Carrera Cosmos 14 has the key features you would expect. It comes with a full chain guard to help keep little fingers safe and clothes clean.

It is equipped with reliable mini V-brakes and child-sized levers that are designed for little hands, making it much easier and safer for them to stop.

The bike is built with a low standover height and an adjustable seatpost, which helps a child feel secure and allows the bike to grow with them as they become more confident.

This bike is suitable for a wide range of riding, from learning to ride on the driveway or local park to joining you on family rides along gentle paths and tracks.

It’s a dependable option and offers a much better experience than a very heavy and cumbersome bike. This makes the Carrera Cosmos 14 a solid choice for parents who are looking for a reliable first bike without breaking the bank.

It is designed for children with a height of 105 – 116cm, which is generally for a 4 year old and over, although it may suit some taller 3 year olds.
