A road bike is a specialist type of kids bike which comes with drop handlebars and skinny tyres – it’s designed for going fast on tarmaced surfaces.
Many, but not all, kids road bikes can also be used for racing cyclocross with a change of tyres.
We recommend this type of bike only for confident cyclists ready to take their riding to the next level – either on road or on closed outdoor tracks.
If your child just wants to ride their bike on the road, say commuting to school, then we recommend a hybrid bike instead as these can also be ridden on trails and other off road surfaces.
