Cycle Sprog T is aged nine and pretty handy on his bike. He loves practising skills and so he’s shared some of his favourites for you to join in with!
TRACKSTAND
Often used in a technical or slow section of single track, mastering this whopper of a skill will improve your confidence and also your mountain biking.
HOW TO DO IT
Start by standing up on your bike with level pedals and slightly bent knees and arms. Always look straight ahead. Now start to lean slightly forward and back to see where your point of balance is.
WARNING. Everyone’s balance point is different!
If you are not sure where you balance point is , ask a trusted adult to hold your bike’s handlebars with the wheel in-between their legs. Then get into the position and get yourself comfy!
BEWARE THIS A DIFFICULT SKILL AND WILL NOT COME INSTANTLY!
WHEELIE
A great skill to perfect. Once you’ve learnt this you will be able to master big step-ups and show off to your friends.
HOW TO DO IT
Start by sitting far back on your saddle and riding very slowly . Come nearly to a stop and then use your leg ( normally your strongest) to put power through the bike.
Try not to yank up the handlebars.
WARNING. As soon as you look down or bend your arms too much your front wheel will come down.
To exit your wheelie either jump off your saddle or pull the back brake to bring the front wheel down!
THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT SKILL AND IT WILL NOT COME INSTANTLY
READY POSITION (OR ATTACK )
Simple but effective, this great skill is an essential for riding your bike downhill.
HOW TO DO IT
Have level pedals, knees and arms slightly bent, fingers over brakes, looking forward and leaning slightly back over your saddle. If you do that you will be whizzing down the hills!
WARNING. The track stand and the wheelie are two complex skills to learn and take a lot of practise to master.
A note from T ( The Author ) : I hope you enjoyed reading my tips, see you soon in the Sprog Blog ?????
