Strider Bikes have today (28th February 2020) announced the cancellation of the Strider Cup World Championship. This annual gathering of some the world’s best balance bikers was due to take place in Japan for the first time in May. Yesterday Japan’s Prime Minster announced that all schools are to be shut for a month to try and contain the spread of Corona Virus.
There will no doubt be some disappointed elite balance bikers around the world. At the moment there has been no announcement on the fate of the Olympic and Paralympic Games due to take place in Tokyo in August and September.
The full statement issued by Strider is as follows:
“For the Strider Cup World Championship scheduled to be held at the Osaka Expo Commemoration Park from May 23rd to the 24th, as a result of discussions conducted with each area, and based on circumstances in each country related to the coronavirus, the international race (World Championship) will be postponed to 2021.
We apologize for this unfortunate announcement to all of the people looking forward to this race. As it stands now, the race scheduled to be held at the Osaka Expo Commemoration Park from May 23rd to the 24th may still take place as domestic race only, but depending upon the current situation, the race still has the possibility of being canceled entirely.
2021 will mark the 10th Strider Cup World Championship Race and will be held in Japan. We look forward to seeing kids from around the world gather, deepen their interactions through Strider, and grow together.”
