Trek recall their Kickster Balance Bike due to safety concerns

Trek have announced the recall of their Kickster balance bike, which is aimed at children aged 2 to 4 years of age.  Over 15,000 bikes worldwide must be returned to store and safety inspected because of a manufacturing fault.

What is wrong with the Trek Kickster Balance Bike?

The clamp that holds the steer tube in place may break if over-tightened due to an issue with the manufacturing process. If the clamp breaks, the handlebars can come off the bicycle, and the rider can fall.

Which model balance bikes are affected by the safety recall?

All Trek Kicksters in model years 2013 through to 2019 are affect by the recall.

Can the Trek Kickster be made safe to ride?

Yes. If you own a bicycle that is affected by this recall, Trek will provide you—through a Trek retailer—free replacement clamps for your balance bike for both the steer tube and seat post (the clamps are interchangeable), including free installation.

Will Trek offer any compensation?

When your Kickster has been repaired, Trek will give you an in-store credit of £20 to use toward any Trek or Bontrager merchandise plus a credit towards a bell with a retail value up to £20. The credit is good through December 31, 2019 and has no cash value.

How do I return my Trek Kickster balance bike?

Cycle Sprog are NOT a Trek retailer so we CANNOT help you with this, so if you have any questions, please contact your nearest Trek retailer or Trek Customer Service on 01908 360 160.
